Recently, the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) conducted formal interviews with social media platforms such as Weibo to address the issue of oversight in the management of hot search rankings, and clearly put forward rectification requirements. In response to this, the official Weibo account quickly responded, stating that they will sincerely accept the criticism and handling opinions of the competent authorities and take immediate action.
The Weibo platform stated that a dedicated rectification and implementation working group has been established as soon as possible, with the highest standards and strictest requirements, to carry out special rectification on the ecological governance issues of the hot search list, ensuring the effective fulfillment of the main responsibility of information content management. Weibo emphasized that it will take this incident as an opportunity to deeply reflect on the shortcomings in various aspects such as the construction of hot search mechanism, ranking management rules, and ecological governance system.
On the basis of the existing management rules for hot search rankings and the complaint mechanism for hot search terms, Weibo plans to further enhance its comprehensive management capabilities to ensure coverage of the entire chain and all links of the hot search rankings. Meanwhile, Weibo adheres to the principles of openness, transparency, and responsibility, and promises to continuously optimize its hot search algorithms, strengthen the public attributes and correct value orientation of its hot search rankings.
Weibo also stated that under the guidance of the competent authorities, it will adhere to the bottom line of laws and regulations, prioritize the interests of the people, and actively fulfill the platform's main and social responsibilities. While continuously improving its platform management capabilities, Weibo will increase its crackdown on behaviors that disrupt the online ecosystem and maintain the clarity of the cyberspace.
